A bronze statue is currently being designed that will pay tribute to the four black bear cubs who served as Cornell's original (albeit unofficial) mascots almost 100 years ago.  Each of these bear cubs was named Touchdown.

We're a group of friends who want to help make this statue a reality and, at the same time, remember our dear friend and Cornell Bear, Ron Winarick, Hotel '78 who passed away in June 2011 after a long and courageous battle with melanoma.  Ron left his wife, Andrea, and his three children, Jenna, Cole and Gordon.

The statue is expected to be unveiled at Homecoming 2015 during Cornell's sesquicentennial year.  (Click here for an early peek).

This is a once-in-our-lifetime opportunity to contribute to a new work of art on campus that will instill new traditions for future generations of Cornellians AND honor our good friend.

We are trying to raise $25,000 (out of a total budget of $250,000), which will allow us to incorporate a small plaque as part of the overall design.  It will serve to memorialize
Ron and inspire future Cornell Bears.

We hope you'll join us.
Welcome to Touchdown for Ron!
" Ron loved every minute of his time at Cornell and none more than when he was out and about campus as the Cornell Bear"

-Dale Okonow, Hotel '78, JD/MBA '83
